I would expect beer consumption to rise over time, maybe even comparing to European rates or North American rates. Don't know much about Chinese beer other than Tsingtao Beer or Zhujiang Beer.I wonder about wine drinking in China and what the rates are for that.

I had my first Manny's last week and it was fantastic. Seattle Beers are under-rated. I just wish I could get it at a store.

YES! "A dry, complex character that reminded him of wine"! This is almost verbatim what I said the first time I ever tried Geuze, and I was the only one at my the table who didn't turn their nose up at it. I fell immediately in love and no could understand it (and we are beer people). This article made me very happy.

Very interesting article. I have lived in various cities around China and can say there are hundreds and hundreds or major brands, most being the lager variety although there were some half decent ales, wheat beers and draught brews coming from domestic breweries. I can say Tsingtao Beer,Zhujiang Beer and Harbin Beer are some of my favorites.

Wow, I found that really really interesting.... Here, in NJ, beer drinkers were given even less respect...

"...But more realistically, The Press of Atlantic City did quote Treasurer David Rousseau in Thursday’s editions on the reason for no beer tax hike:

“We wanted to protect what we believed was the middle-class and lower-income people's, you know …” He then stopped and said simply, “We'll leave it at that.”
